One of the reasons the Chisox may be interested in trading Garland is that he would not consider a recent contract extension offer. Based upon current market prices for starters, the White Sox are afraid they won't be able to afford Garland if he goes to free agency after next year. I would think that has to be a concern for the Astros too. If you are going to trade good young arms for him, I would think you would hope to have him for the long term. Despite that concern, I'm glad to see that the Astros are trying to find a good starting pitcher for next year.
