does anyone else see this as a bad thing? oh well, we can always fire him if he jacks the team around like he did this year. this team won in SPITE of him, not because of him

Give me a break! This is the same flawed logic that had Dierker run out of town (despite 4/5 playoff appearances) and saddled the team with a "baseball savvy" loser like Jimy Williams.

The "book" on managing is simple. Anyone with experience can play by the book.

Good managers know their players, how to motivate them, and when to throw out the book and play their hunch.

Garner is definitely what this team needs.
