It doesn't matter what kind of spin James or Neyer puts on this list, Roger's Hornsby is at the top of the list. Hornsby wasn't just the greatest second baseman of his era, he was one of the greatest hitters of all time.

Hornsby had the team record for highest batting average for every team he played for. At one time the team records for highest BA of the Cardinals, Cubs, Braves and Giants were held by Hornsby and I think he still holds the club records of these teams with the exception of the Giants.
