Lidge lost the game; as the closer his job is not to allow a run to score. So I won't sugar-coat that. But, Flash, I don't agree with your statement that Lidge may never be the same again. I was worried about any lasting effect of the Pujols homer on Lidge's psyche, but I don't think it had a lasting effect. Lidge responded well to giving up two consecutive GW homers with some good pitching on Tuesday. I don't think giving up two singles tonight will have an effect on him into next season. After watching a re-run of his pitches to Jermaine Dye tonight, I have to agree with Brantley at ESPN that Lidge somehow got away from good pitch selection. He threw 3 or 4 consecutive sliders to Dye, all of which were low good pitches. But, after looking silly on the first slider, you could see that Dye was adjusting to the sliders and he anticipated that last one which he knocked through the middle with a nice controlled swing.
