Aubrey Huff wants to stay in Houston and the Astros remain interested in him. It will be interesting to see what happens because the last I heard, Tim Purpura hasn't decided what to do at 3rd base yet. Morgan Ensberg isn't a lock yet ( like many of you think ) and the Astros will probably figure out what to do at 3rd base after they acquire a legitimate number 2 starting pitcher, which is going to be Andy Pettitte.

I'm thinking a two year deal for 17 million dollars might be what Aubrey Huff is looking for from the Astros. That would be 8.5 million dollars per year ( might even be able to back-load the contract where he gets something like 6 million the first year and 11 million the second year ) and while that is a lot of money, it's still a bargain considering the market right now.

And of course, the Astros would have to trade Morgan Ensberg and his nearly 4 million dollars a year, which would end up making Huff's addition more affordable in terms of the Astros staying at a certain ( desireable ) payroll for 2007.

Just an idea of mine, I don't think it will necessarily happen but I'm just throwing it out there for debate.

I really like Aubrey Huff, call me an Aubrey Huff fan. I just think our lineup would look really good if we had this ..

RF - Luke Scott
1B - Lance Berkman
LF - Carlos Lee
3B - Aubrey Huff
2B - Craig Biggio / Chris Burke

C - Brad Ausmus / Whoever catches the other games

I like Luke Scott hitting 2nd in the lineup for some reason, assuming we had Aubrey Huff as our everyday 3rd baseman in 2007.

But obviously, if we keep Morgan Ensberg and he puts up 2006 numbers instead of 2005 numbers, then it might be wise to bat him 2nd in the lineup which would drop Luke Scott to 5th.

Either way, does it seem like Biggio is currently a 6th hitter in the lineup, or do you think he will still bat 2nd or leadoff ? I remember when Phil Garner experimented a few times with Biggio leading off and Taveras in the 2-spot, albeit, I would prefer it the other way around since it makes a little more sense I guess.

Nonetheless, we'll see what happens. Whether it's Morgan Ensberg or Aubrey Huff ( or even Mike Lamb for that matter ), I don't really care, I will cheer for whoever it is. But I'm more on the re-sign Aubrey Huff bandwagon myself.

While many people don't think the Astros have a chance to re-sign Aubrey Huff, for various reasons, I have to kindly disagree with that notion. Only because Aubrey Huff is expressing a desire to want to stay in Houston. If he didn't want to stay in Houston and he was only interested in the largest financial offer, I really feel he would have signed elsewhere by now.
