1) The Press
Some said the press was liberal, others lazy, while I said negative. I will agree on two out of three counts. I think the press loves a frontrunner because they love to kick him/her when they're down. Someone mentioned 24 hour news and I have to admit that I have been disappointed at the outcome. I thought they would take the time to delve into background on all of the issues they report on. Nightly news talks five minutes about terrorism. Why not spend an hour or two talking about the origins of these groups and their legitimate (or illegitimate) complaints? Why not take giant issues like health care, immigration, and national security and really inform the public? I guess it's a lot easier to install the Brittney cam and just slap that publicity monkey for all its worth.
2) Schools
We have a thread above which outlines my beliefs in a lot more detail. Naturally, this one is VERY important to me.
3) Demonizing the other side
I think one of the reasons why it seems the press is liberal is that we've lost sight of the spectrum. We spend so much time on extremists like Limbaugh, Hannity, Michael Moore, Coulter, any Hollywood hack, PETA, et al that we've lost our compass as a nation. Most of us sit somewhere in the middle. Yes, some of us are left of center and some right of center, but we agree on more than we disagree. I want a government that is competent. When a hurricane hits the coast, an earthquake hits California, or a tornado attacks the midwest, no one gives a shit whether it is a blue state or red state. When relief comes it doesn't matter whether a donkey or elephant is giving it. I honestly like John McCain and Mike Huckaby. I don't always agree with them, but I find them to be honest and basically good, caring people. In fact, the least likeable person is in my own party. I think if we take a step back we'll see that more of us are in agreement than what we think.
