RyanED, I hope you'll chime in on this:
Who do you think the Texans will get? Who do you want them to get?
"Berkman in the last two games: 9 for 10, 1 HR, 4 doubles, 6 runs, 5 RBIs. For good hitters, that's a week. For some players, that's two weeks.
For Ausmus, that's two months." - Bob Hulsey

Drew, with the 18th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft... I think the Houston Texans have two positions they're desperately in need of -- Left Tackle and
Cornerback.
Albeit, the Texans will consider drafting a premier running back if somebody like Jonathan Stewart from Oregon is still on the board at 18. The Houston Texans did sign Chris Brown as a free agent from the Titans, and they'll bring back injury-prone and aging Ahman Green. They also have young running backs like Darius Walker and Chris Taylor, but none of those four options look like long-term solutions, and Chris Brown may be the best option if he stays healthy. Honestly, I think the Houston Texans will attempt to trade down with the 18th pick and pick up multiple second-round picks... You have to realize this draft looks deep and the Texans don't have a second-round pick at this current time ( part of the Matt Schaub trade from last year ). On the other hand, the Texans never do what I think they're going to do... So that means they're going to use the 18th pick in the first round. I think the Texans would like to draft any of these left tackles at 18, but I doubt any of these guys will still be on the board when the Texans select... Ryan Clady from Boise State, Jeff Otah from Pittsburgh, Chris Williams from Vanderbilt. Any of those three left tackles would be an excellent pick for the Houston Texans at 18, but it's unlikely any of the three will be on the board when the Texans select. So that means the Texans are more likely to draft a cornerback at 18... Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie from Tennesse State, Mike Jenkins from South Florida, Aqib Talib from Kansas. I think the Houston Texans will end up drafting one of those three cornerbacks at 18, but only if the previously mentioned left tackles are off the board. But like I said... If Jonathan Stewart ( awesome running back from Oregon ) is available at 18... I don't see how the Houston Texans can pass up a franchise running back who has a rare blend of size and speed. We'll see what happens later today! I'm eagerily waiting and I want to see what the Houston Texans do with the 18th overall pick in the first round.

What would you think if they picked Tommy Blake in say the 4th, 5th round?

For some reason... I like Chase Ortiz a little more, even though he's not projected as highly as Tommy Blake -- maybe neck and neck to some scouts.
In fact, some scouts may have Blake rated a little higher on their draft board, but others may have Ortiz rated higher. Both of them will go anywhere from the 4th round ( at highest ) to the 7th round ( at lowest ). There's a very small chance one or both go undrafted, but that's extremely unlikely. Both Tommy Blake and Chase Ortiz are excellent defensive ends from TCU. Looking at the combine results, Tommy Blake ran 4.78 in the 40-yard dash, and Chase Ortiz ran a 4.90 in the 40-yard dash... For the Houston Texans, they need to draft a defensive end in the middle or late rounds... Somebody who can compliment Mario Williams on the other side of the defensive line. Preferably a quick and small defensive end is what the Texans need on that other side. Tommy Blake has perfect size ( 6'3 and 272 ) and I do like his speed and quickness when compared to Chase Ortiz. I think Tommy Blake would be a good pick for the Houston Texans in the late rounds, but I wouldn't mind one bit if the Texans drafted Chase Ortiz. Here are the profiles for both... It's just past 10 a.m. and the 2008 NFL Draft coverage just started on ESPN.
I'm guessing it will be close to 3 p.m. ( later in the afternoon today ) by the time the Houston Texans make their selection at 18.

Guess I'm not a football guru...not enough to watch spring football. |

I'm only guessing, but by the time the Houston Texans are on the clock and ready to select with their 18th overall pick... It's going to be close to
4:30 p.m. in the afternoon. More or less around that time... I think today's Astros game will definitely be over by then...

Jeez...not one opinion about their draft...the Texans? Where's the football love..........
Texans take OT Brown in first round.
INDIANAPOLIS - Virginia Tech offensive tackle Duane Brown is the newest member of the Texans, who chose him
with the 26th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Watch his workout at the Indianapolis Combine They got 1 pick in the first 2 rounds.

Another DeMeco. Then Chris Williams, Albert and Cromartie came off the board right before the Texans pick, and I was hoping they'd trade back. They do, but with the pick they got they probably should have traded further back. I think Brown is a bit of a reach especially when I see ratings having him all over the map from maybe an early 2nd rounder to a 4th rounder. That said, if the Texans had him rated the best LT left, then you got 2 extra picks for him too. The major concern I have with this pick is what it says about Spencer returning. I'm thinking it doesn't look good. Personally, I was surprised Baltimore gave up what they did to move up and get Flacco. Really? Joe Flacco wouldn't have been around in the 2nd or 3rd? I feel like the Texans got the better end of that deal. They pick up a corner in the 3rd with Antwaun Molden out of Eastern Kentucky. And since we can't get enough Eastern Kentucky football here in southeast Texas......ok, we don't so I know zilch about this guy. With their Baltimore pick, they get RB-Steve Slaton - West Virginia. What are you going to do with this little guy? 5'9" 197. He's fast but how's that going to play out between the tackles? That gives you Green, Dayne, Brown, Taylor, Walker and now Slaton at RB. It looks like the Texans scouts flooded the mid-Atlantic coast, because they get their 4th player from that area of the country with OLB- Xavier Adibi from Virginia Tech with their 4th round pick.
The Real HR Leaders
Aaron 755, Ruth 714, Mays 660, Griffey, Jr. 603, F. Robinson 586
I started out with nothing...and I still have most of it.

I like Slaton, but I agree with your question Speedy. 6 RBs on the roster? I like that we addressed the OLine early in the draft (FINALLY) but I also do not
know too much about Brown, and have heard the same mixed reviews. But hey, Mel Kiper likes him a lot!! Same thing with Molden I think. His name does sound like
Anquan Boldin, fwiw...

I spent all of Saturday Night and a portion of Sunday Morning at Valerie's apartment. She's the 34-year-old woman my cousin introduced me to the
previous Saturday. I'm 26 years old and I feel over-matched by her older age and experience, but I'm going to commit to this relationship and see where
it goes. I haven't felt like I do right now in a very long time... If ever.... Everything just happened so fast!
She looks amazing too! Never in my lifetime did I think I would have a chance to be in a relationship with somebody as beautiful as her, but I realized anything is possible and I just have to overcome my own personal fears and take a chance in life! Anyway, I'm still around... I've just been ( getting ) busy lately. She actually liked that old '80s song by Steve Winwood that I sent her with a box of chocolate and a card earlier today. I might go out to the movie theatres with her tonight! I think I'm in love right now... I don't know yet... I'm feeling like a new man!

I got to get ready to go out with Valerie in an hour.
I'll make a thread about the 2008 Houston Texans ( including my opinions about all of the draft picks ) later tomorrow morning. I have photos, videos and opinions. Later tomorrow I'll do it. Take care, guys!

Don't go too fast, my friend. Be careful!
I hope she's as nice as you believe her to be :) Good luck!
