Shooter Hunt was impressive for Tulane for 5 innings, but Florida got to him in a hurry in the 6th. Tulane probably doesn't have a hope of getting out of the loser's bracket for a shot at Florida or Florida State without throwing him again in this regional.

And just like that Tulane ties it up... Sometimes we forget there's other college kids with talent. Florida's in danger of coughing up this game, and after getting to Hunt and taking a 4-1 lead that's a big deal. If these two teams wind up beating each other up today Florida State's going to walk into the next round.

Justin Smoak, another potential draft selection for the Astros (although I don't think they're looking to draft a first baseman) is 3-3 with a double and South Carolina is killing Charlotte in their opener 9-0.

Houston defeated Dallas Baptist 9-5.

Smoak is 4-4 with a double, an HBP and a walk today. South Carolina is currently up 15-7. Love that aluminum.

Gordan Beckham won't last until the Astros' selection, but they'd love to have him. He's currently 0-4 though as Georgia trails Lipscomb 6-9. Georgia is one of the top 8 seeds in the tournament and this game is being played in Athens. If they lose this game it would be a huge upset. They'd have a hard time coming back from the loser's bracket in a regional with Louisville and Georgia Tech.

Beckham finally got a hit in the bottom of the 8th. His single plated a run. They still trail 7-9.

The Big XII is 2-1 now. Oklahoma State and Texas A&M will play later today. Oklahoma currently trails Vanderbilt 2-1 in the second. Pedro Alvarez is another guy that will be gone by the time Houston selects in the draft. He drew a walk in the first inning.

The winner of the elimination game today will stay alive to face the loser of the winner's game tomorrow afternoon. They would need two wins from that point to advance. I think it's hilarious that Florida State and Florida are playing an elimination game today. I don't think Bucknell had ever made the tournament before, and they shut down the Seminoles and future #1 pick Buster Posey.

Thoughts... A&M has scored 37 runs so far in the tournament. In two games. Miami won a must win contest against Missouri in a close one. Had they lost that game they'd have eventually needed to beat Aaron Crow to advance. Florida State was shutout by a team that's never won a tournament game yesterday then put up 17 on Florida today. If they finish off Bucknell tomorrow they may have to beat (possible future Astro) Shooter Hunt to advance. The Astros were most certainly going to draft Fresno State's ace before his shoulder fracture. Without him Fresno's only defeated the top seed in their region, and currently lead the second seed 6-0. Dallas Baptist, Texas Southern and Sam Houston State bowed out today leaving five Texas teams in the tournament (A&M, Texas, Rice, Houston and TCU). The ACC is dominating the field despite FSU's emberassing opener. The Big XII has had a rough day with Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma State all going down. Oklahoma is likely to follow later against Arizona State (they trail 3-0 early). Oklahoma State declared ace Andrew Oliver (sophomore, future early round selection) ineligable before tonight's game with Wichita State. They'll have to beat TCU and Wichita State twice now to advance without him. Their other top pitcher thew 8+ innings Friday night against four seed Western Kentucky.
