Jason Castro is playing right now. His Stanford team leads (5) Cal State Fullerton 3-0. Castro is 2-3 and hit a home run in the 5th.

ESPN2 replayed the Arizona vs Miami game late last night and I watched that to get a look at T.J Steele. A cf we drafted just a day before.
Now, I know it was only one game but he looked OUTSTANDING both in the field and at the plate. It helped that he hit a 2 run HR and had another RBI as well as making a gave saving catch (and double play) hit off Yonder Alonso. I am going to watch him again tonight

Castro had a great game last night again to eliminate CSF. He was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and a stolen base. I know its college ball but our kids are looking
pretty good the last few days since being drafted.

Your absolutely right! It's really fun to watch, I just wish I knew that they were going to sign or not. We will have to wait a little while until they are
eliminated, but as of now, they ARE Astros to me.

I would guestimate 80-90% of college juniors drafted before the 10th round sign with the team. Few people want to wait another year and risk a) injury b)
falling even farther and getting no signing bonus and c) delaying a major league career when they've most likely accomplished what college ball has to
offer.

Most college players sign. They don't have nearly as much leveredge as the high school kids. What are they going to do other than go back to school if
they don't? I guess Drew and Varitek played some independent ball... The fastest way to the most money though is to sign, kick ass, and start that six
year clock on the service time.
I think I heard the Astros had already signed eight of their picks. That's good news. |
