So a very close friend of mine also happens to be a sports anchor. Some of you probably know him as he was on the air in Houston and Austin. Kevin Holden was a
sports staple on News24 Houston and News8 Austin. In fact it was told to me that he taught Raheel (from 1560) everything he knows when they worked together in
Austin… although that might not be the best selling point (sorry Raheel).
Anyways, he has been rocking and rolling over in Florida as a lead anchor when they suddenly decided to up and cancel sports. Not playing them mind you… just covering them. So add "no sports coverage" to old people, hanging chads and hurricanes as reasons we don't want to live there. Anyways now that he is trying to figure out what a sports guy does in a non-sports guy world he came up with an idea. He has two passions in life. One is baseball and the other is Carvel Ice Cream. Unfortunately he could not find a way to make those two things profitable together so he decided to go ahead and combine his reporting skills with baseball instead.
He came up with an idea, well, he came up with an idea that I think borders right on that bleeding edge of crazy and just crazy enough to work. He has a plan to see every single MLB, AAA, AA and single A game in the lower 48 and Canada in one single season. Before you ask, yes it can be done and yes he has mapped it out. 28,000 miles. 150 something days. Whataburger in the south. In-n-Out Burger in the West and White Castle up top and you have yourself quite a trip. Oh, and he would be blogging both video and online about every single team and every single town and every single crazy ass thing that goes on in these Single A cities..
I don't know how many of you have been to a minor league game but the smaller the town the funnier and crazier the antics are. Add to that scouting reports of all of your teams top prospects with video and on hand reporting from a guy who, quite frankly is one of the best and has an unnatural knowledge of the game of baseball (he can also solve a double sized Rubix cube in under 2 minutes flat… so ha) and you have a pretty comprehensive, funny and unique take on something we generally don't hear much about.
But before he can make this dream a reality he needs some support. We need to get him some grass roots support to get this ball rolling. Log in and check out his blog at www.greatamericanbaseballadventure.blogspot.com and see what you think. He will be updating it regularly with tidbits, sports thoughts and commentary. Sometimes it could be an insiders take on a sports story and the truth behind it. Other times it could be something random that he saw on TV and it caught his eye like a cat seeing something shiny. Raheel can vouch for his sports knowledge and pedigree, as well as confirming that this man is one of the all time great people in this or any other business. Astrosdaily has the best sports fans in the world and I say that full well knowing St. Louis is a dangerous city to piss off, so get out there and support one of your own! This idea is straight up "No Layups" and we need to make sure we support a true sports fan's sports dream!!!
