It's almost the one year anniversary of Hurricane Ike and that was an intense experience for many of us living in the Houston area and especially closer
to Galveston. I felt very lucky I was only without electricity for eight days from September 13 to September 21 of last year, because I know a lot of people
didn't get their power back for two, three even four weeks later.
I still remember when the Hurricane-force winds and heavy rain pounded my area. It was nearly 2 a.m. if I recell correctly. Around 1:47 a.m. is when my
electricity went down and the next several hours I just tried to make it through the best way I could, and I had to manually keep closing my electronic garage
door because it kept opening every few minutes and pieces of the garage kept ripping apart. There were moments when I felt afraid and I hate to admit that
being a big guy like I am.
The window in my room was smashed but thankfully it was only a small piece of glass that came out. My room suffered some water damage and the carpet had to be
replaced. I can't imagine if this was a category 4 or 5 storm that plowed through, not sure I'd have made it through something any stronger wind and
rain wise. The house would have collapsed and broken down had it been anything stronger.
At any rate, I'm just glad nothing serious appears to be forming in the Gulf of Mexico right now but I could be wrong. Does anybody have a website where I
can track the potential hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico?
Hopefully the next few weeks go by without anything serious developing. I just want to stay at home with no stress, and enjoy some Houston Texans football. The
last thing I need is more worries about things I can't control.
