Just look at Lidge's 2009 season numbers...
He went 0-8 with a 7.21 ERA and 11 blown saves.
But his 2009 postseason numbers are stout...
So far he's 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 3 for 3 in saves.
This was after his perfect 2008 season with the Phillies ( 41 for 41 in saves and a sensational 1.71 ERA ), which ultimately resulted in a World Series championship. It's obvious things couldn't have turned out any better for Brad Lidge since leaving Houston.
I will be cheering for the Phillies in the 2009 World Series as well. No matter if it's the Yankees or Angels, I'm hoping the Phillies win back-to-back World Series championships. To think Ed Wade put together the foundation of that team. So many of the superstars on that team were drafted by Ed Wade weren't they?
Ultimately, I think both the Astros and Phillies benefited from the Michael Bourn for Brad Lidge trade. It's bittersweet to see Brad Lidge having so much "championship success" though. When will the Houston Astros ever win a World Series? I just wish Brad Lidge had done it back in 2005. It's somewhat frustrating looking back, realizing how close the Astros actually were.
It's so good to see good baseball being played again. I wasn't planning to watch much of this year's postseason but the Phillies have been a fun bunch to watch. I can't stand the Yankees and they're likely going to finish off the Angels tonight.
We're most likely looking at the Phillies versus Yankees in the 2009 World Series. I think that would be a tremendous series that goes the distance, a full seven-game series.
I'll probably watch every game played in the 2009 World Series. My passion for Major League Baseball has slowly came back again. I may enjoy the 2010 Houston Astros season even if they're not a good team.
Let's hope Ed Wade is putting a good foundation together in Houston. People tell me the Astros have drafted well during Wade's brief tenure as general manager and the Astros will have another high draft pick to use in next year's draft, which I believe is the 8th overall pick but I could be wrong.
