Right now the worst possible things that could happen for Drayton are happening. The Texans have gelled and become a fun, exciting and possibly play-off bound team while the Rockets, even without Yao or T-Mac, are extremely exciting to watch and are competitive night in and night out against the best teams. The Astros are an afterthought and not just because the season is over. They are a boring, old group of players that with few exception bring nothing but baggage and wishy washy play.
They were giving freaking tickets away last year and the stadium was still deserted. McLane needs to realize before the city turns on him for real that this was our way of saying "DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!!!". He keeps toeing this "one player away" crap then I see the fans leaving even faster than they are right now. Hell, I am a fan that for the past 7 years hasn't missed a game. I watched every single game for those seven years either in person, on tv live or on tv recorded. Every. Single. Game. Last year by about August I stopped giving a rats ass. I don't think I watched more than 3 games in September. Just couldn't stand watching them care more about getting Coop out than winning ball games. This team is dead. Don't get me wrong, Bourn is exciting and Pence is fun. I love watching Miggy get pumped up and Valverde too (both of whom have a real solid shot at not being Astros after this off-season) but after those 4 and Wandy and Roy this team is lifeless.
Is there anything that can be done to make this team fun again? I would welcome a losing season if it allows us to get some life out there. I can't believe I'm saying this but I kind of hope we trade Berkman and Roy. Would miss them but we could at least get some fun young talent back for them and might make this team fun to watch. A big part of me misses those early and mid '90's teams that, while we sucked, at least you knew the Astros were going to play hard every game. Amazing how quickly this team lost its' spark after Biggio and Bagwell lost.
