Caught a segment of Baseball Tonight where the Red Sox put on the extreme shift for Seattle's dangerous Kyle Seager in the top of the first, one out and Brad Miller at third. Seager calmly bunted along third base while Miller scored easily and the third baseman had no chance to throw Seager out because he was shifted over to the SS position. Basically, the Red Sox not only gave Seattle the run but they also gave up a free single. Heck, they'd have been better off if they had just intentionally walked Seager.
One of the panelists defended the shift by saying "but they have all these reams of statistics. I'm sure they know what they're doing." Apparently none of those reams of stats said anything about Seager being able to drop a bunt. It sure didn't look like he had never done it before although somebody needs to tell him to keep his feet in the batters box while he bunts.
