Assuming that even if 10% of all players were jucing, this is another reason why I just don't care anymore about who was doing steriods. How can a genius like LaRussa not know what was going on, he knew, and by knowing and by keeping silent all these years he becomes an enabler and in a small way an accomplice. If you extrapolate, then one can reasonably say other GMs and managers were aware of what was going on. but chose to turn a blind eye. It's all a sordid mess that has people who by association are involved in the cover up. Although they may be clean, there are still people who are partly responsible for allowing the cover up to go on for so long.

MLB is guilty as an entity, so is the players' association. which is another reason why I think this stinks but is less harmful to the sport than gambling and therefore the players who are found to havew been using should not be punished. The condoning, the cover up, looking the other way, went on far to long, and in essence sent the message that it was okay to do PHD. MLB sent a message that said we are not going to encourage the usage but we're not going to do anything about it if not one gets caught. This was never the case with gambling. To my knowledge the has never been a sign posted above the club house door informing players that using PHDs would subject one to a permanent banishment.

One can argue that the playing field was unlevel but not at the expense of the integrity of the game. The whole purpose of taking PHDs is to enhance one's performance, to make one more competitive. Gambling however makes a mockery out of competition. If were are to assume every team and player is trying to win, then the notion of PHDs reinforces that assumption, while the notion of players or managers betting on games, belittles it.

Canseco lied through his teeth for years. In the past I've heard several interviews where he denied useing steroids. His only purpose of admitting it now is to sell books.
