Hernandez finished 7-1 with a 3.27 ERA in the VWL, and the Astros have received encouraging reports about his velocity. As things stand now, he'd compete with Wandy Rodriguez, Ezequiel Astacio, Fernando Nieve, Jason Hirsh and Taylor Buchholz for two rotation spots.
