Game Preview - Clemens leads Astros against Dodgers and rookie Houlton
LA Dodgers (40-45) at Houston (41-43), 8:05 pm EDT
HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Roger Clemens looks to continue his remarkable season when the Houston Astros host the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday in the opener of a three-game set.
The possible starter in Tuesday's All-Star Game in Detroit, Clemens (7-3, 1.41 ERA) has allowed one earned run or fewer in each of his last five starts. Clemens started the 2004 All-Star Game in Houston.
On Sunday, the future Hall of Famer allowed just four hits in seven innings in a 9-0 win against Cincinnati.
Houston has bounced back from a terrible start to get within two games of .500. Despite a loss in the series finale against San Diego on Thursday, the Astros are 15-5 in their last 20 contests.
The Dodgers have followed the opposite trail, starting the season on a tear before cooling off and going 7-16 in their last 23 games. Injuries to J.D. Drew, Milton Bradley , former Astro Jeff Kent and Eric Gagne have contributed to the team's struggles.
With several players hurting, rookie D.J. Houlton (4-2, 6.33) has worked his way into the starting rotation. After winning four of his previous five starts, Houlton was shelled for six runs and six hits in two innings Sunday against Arizona.
