Think we could get Alou? |
Lead | |
|
Moises Alou had commented a while back that he wasnt interested in leaving the Giants because he wants to play for his dad. However, judging by an article (see link below) in the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants clubhouse is not too friendly. Maybe hed like to come back and play in Houston with his good buddy Jeff Bagwell. It might be easier to get him if Baggys future was less uncertain. But its also looking like the Astros have a better shot at winning this year than the Giants. I wonder what it would take to get Alou? Ray Durhams getting older, so they might be happy to have Burke. What else would we have to throw in?

I don't know where he'd play. You'd have to bench Burke or Lane and Alou is a defensive liability. He'd be better off in the AL as a DH...

Quote: Yes but what happens when you go to a game at good old MMP, and sit somewhere down the 3B line. Alou loses his grip on the bat, and it comes spinning toward you. Miraculously, you reach out with one hand and CATCH the bat by its handle. Only to realize, that you are touching his peepee. WILL YOU CARE THEN? WILL YOU? |

Yes, I would like to have Alou's bat in the Astros' lineup. But if I were the GM I would have to think long and hard about trading Burke for him. And the reason is Alou's age, and the fact he probably can be counted for this season and maybe the next. I agree Alou is not a great outfielder anymore, but he is not terrible either; certainly his power and RBI production far outweigh any drop off in LF when we are already using an out-of-position player there (not that I have any complaints about Burke's fielding). I would prefer trading lessor prospects or a relief pitcher for Alou, but I don't know if that would get the job done.

Purpura said that Astros will make no trade for a player that isn't going to be here for the future. And Alou I believe signed a 1 year contract with Giants. So it could again be a half season rental and Astros will not do that.
Adam Dunn under contract 2 more years but loves the city of Houston and would likely stay long-term, and Aubrey Huff is under contract .. these 2 guys would be a better player to trade for. Not to mention both are young compared to the very old Moises Alou. ![]() |

Actually, I believe Alou signed a two year contract. But I take your point. Id rather have a younger player with a higher ceiling, like Dunn, but well have to give up more to get a player like that. Not saying it wouldnt be worth it. It just depends on which way Purpura wants to go and also whos really available.

I think your right Amy, Alou did sign 2 year deal with Giants. Alou would be a good addition for now, he is probably going to be cheaper trade wise than Dunn or Huff would.
But I would get Moises Alou only as a last resort though, and only if we couldn't package a deal for Dunn or Huff. ![]() |
