(I posted this at the other forum, but since there isn't a whole lot of cross-posting I'll post it here too.)
The national title game will be Oklahoma vs. LSU, and the nation has gone crazy.
I'm getting tired of it.
The biggest complaint is that the #1 team won't be in the title game. They keep telling us the computers got an obvious decision wrong. Who's to say the human voters didn't vote wrong.
The rankings at the end of the season should reflect the entire season. Not the last game.
Oklahoma lost once the whole season, and it took a title game for that to happen. The definitely belong in the National title game.
USC lost to 7-6 Cal! They only beat one team in the Top 25! I still don't understand why they are looked at as a no-brainer.
LSU, they lost to Florida, and won four games against ranked opponents.
To me it looks obvious that the two best teams in the country will be playing for the national title.
The BCS has caught a lot of flack for 'Quality win' and 'Strength of schedule'. Why? I'm not sure, probably because they are the components of the system that caused USC to miss out on a chance to play for the title.
The truth is they are important, and necessary. You didn't see anyone decrying them when they were working against TCU did you?
It cost USC that they only played against one ranked team. Was thet their fault? No. Should it cost them? When other teams with the same record beat twice and four times as many ranked teams as they did, the answer is yes.
You hear people cry for common sense. They choose to look at human polls, see USC at number 1, turn around and say, "look there it is, common sense says they should play for the title."
Well if this is common sense, I don't want any part of it.
The voters at this point in the season use an unwritten system to vote. If a team loses they drop dramtically. It doesn't matter their record or to whom. They usually wind up the last ranked team among teams with the same record.
It's the human factor. 'what have you done for me lately?"
Frankly, It's ridiculous.
The top two teams will be playing for the title. This year the BCS worked. I've tried to provide only factual evidence in this argument, as opposed to 'common sense'. This whole controversy has me feeling like I'm the only objective person that keeping up with it, because any objective person would come to the same conclusion that I, and the computers have come to.
I'm not even a fan of the BCS, and I would definitely prefer a playoff system, but for the next few years there is a sytem, and more often than not, it has worked.
