....we called one of our friends who was there, and they did indeed stop selling beer in the 7th! I bet Larry's bamboo hut was jam packed!

Just imagine how the crowd would have gone nuts if half of them were drunk by the 18th.

They threw everyone out of the nine amigos restaurant/bat in the 14th and stopped serving. People were sitting on the bar in centerfield watching the game. Never seen anything like it.

Well, the worst part about being AT THE GAME (Texans) was worrying about what the Stros were doing.
Good God, after that Atlanta GS, I was ready to lose and face the next game. But OH MY GOD AND EVERYTHING THAT IS RIGHT IN THIS WORLD - the Stros pulled it out in 18 freaking innings! |

I was standing behind the Crawford boxes (SRO with a bum knee, got there for batting practice) near some guys from Lafayette, LA. As there were no concessions to be found in the area after God-only-knows-what-inning, someone quipped "somebody call FEMA and have 'em send some beer over here".
I was also at the 16-inning game in '86 and the 22-inning night game in (I think July '89) when we beat the Dodgers w/ Valenzuela playing first base at the end (close to 2am). |
