Before this 2005 started, I made a 200 dollar bet with a friend that Roy Oswalt could have back to back 20 win seasons. My friend said no way, only Joe Niekro has done that in the Astros franchise history.
So anyway, Roy Oswalt has 19 wins now. And he is due to pitch vs Cubs the final game of season on sunday.
A lot can depend on whether or not we clinch wild card before the final game on sunday. We probably will. We might have option to rest Oswalt all together and not pitch him sunday. But is that really best for him ? I rather see Oswalt get a few innings of work to stay sharp for the NLDS vs Atlanta.
Oswalt could still get 5 innings of work on sunday to get some work in and stay sharp for playoffs. Roy Oswalt could also win 20 games and have back to back 20 win seasons.
He could be the first Astros pitcher to do it since Joe Niekro in 79 and 80.
Of course, the important thing is Astros clinching the wild card. Just keep winning. Whether Oswalt pitches sunday or not. That is ok to me. As long as Astros make playoffs and are ready to play our best in playoffs.
