Astros open two-game series with Cardinals
Houston (85-71) at St. Louis (97-60), 8:10 pm EDT
ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The St. Louis Cardinals are already in the playoffs and can make it more difficult for the Houston Astros to join them.
Leading the Philadelphia Phillies by 1 1/2 games in the wild card chase, the Astros start a two-game series with the Cardinals on Tuesday.
Despite dropping two of three against the Chicago Cubs over the weekend, Houston has won nine of 12 and is aiming to reach the postseason for the sixth time in nine years.
Roy Oswalt (18-12, 2.91 ERA) is 3-1 with a 2.73 ERA in September and will likely get one more start in his bid for a second-straight 20-win season. He surrendered four runs and nine hits in six innings of Wednesday's victory at Pittsburgh.
The Central Division-champion Cardinals have dropped five of seven and lost consecutive series for the first time all season. They need three wins to reach 100.
Matt Morris (14-9, 3.97) tries to snap a four-game losing streak and become St. Louis' fourth 15-game winner. He allowed just one run and a hit in six innings at Cincinnati on Thursday but did not get a decision.
St. Louis won two of three against Houston from September 2-4 and leads the season series, 11-3.
