Lidge gives up winning Run....Again |
Lead | |
|
Brad Lidge has went from Houston Hero to a Goat. The Lidge seriously choked when all the marbles were on the Line. And what can we say about our offense?? Leaving all the runners in scoring position. Ensberg is not a good enough hitter to be batting after Berkman. Endsberg did nothing in this series and left a ton of runners in scoring position.

He the Dan Miceli of 2005. He may never recover.
0-2 in the WS with a 4.91 ERA. |

Lidge just didn't have his game, location was off...he showed signs of his real self, he came thru in the 9th after giving up a leadoff double.
That Pujols homer really set the tone for the rest of the games it seems, screwed up the rotation... if Roy had started game 1.. .things may have been different.. getting down 0-1 and Clemens knocked early hurt bad.. Great year for the Astros though, they should keep their chins up and look forward to next year! I am proud of their effort after starting 15-30. |

Nope, it was the offense. Not the pitching.

Jermaine Dye killed us this series.

Yeah Dye hit a rocket off of Lidge. Surprised it didn't kill someone it was hit so hard.

Lidge???
Did the Astros even take bats up to the plate? The lack of contact by our boys has me seriously concerned for the future. How long can we get by with a weak "up the middle"??? Anyway, just venting a bit. I love the Astros. I'm so proud of them for getting to the WS. It was great to experience. Let's get a bat for next year. Gotta get a hitting catcher or SS...it's a must!!! Thanks Astros for a great ride! ...and I'd take Lidge any day! |

I was skeptical about Brad after game 2 but he showed me something good in game 4. I think he'll eventually be fine and hey look...he gave up a run....I guess we didn't plan on scoring any (joking);
Does anyone else here think that just maybe with the two inning saves to make the playoffs....perhaps he's just tired? |

I'm wondering why we pitched to Dye, or why we gave him a low fastball when he's known as a low ball hitter. I suppose that's niether here nor there since it's not like the offense would've scored anyway.

Quote: With the expression on his face tonight..I don't think he's over the Pujols/Podsednik homers...plus he probably is tired. Hope he recovers and doesn't turn into another Mitch Williams. |

Super - Dye hit a slider. It was 88 or 89. I was a bit surprised that's the pitch Lidge went with. His first pitch to Konerko was 98! He should've brought that.
...but he'll be ok. Dude has some nasty stuff. I'm glad he's on our side! |

Lidge lost the game; as the closer his job is not to allow a run to score. So I won't sugar-coat that. But, Flash, I don't agree with your statement that Lidge may never be the same again. I was worried about any lasting effect of the Pujols homer on Lidge's psyche, but I don't think it had a lasting effect. Lidge responded well to giving up two consecutive GW homers with some good pitching on Tuesday. I don't think giving up two singles tonight will have an effect on him into next season. After watching a re-run of his pitches to Jermaine Dye tonight, I have to agree with Brantley at ESPN that Lidge somehow got away from good pitch selection. He threw 3 or 4 consecutive sliders to Dye, all of which were low good pitches. But, after looking silly on the first slider, you could see that Dye was adjusting to the sliders and he anticipated that last one which he knocked through the middle with a nice controlled swing.

Clack. That's a good analysis. I think that unfortunately there isn't a lot of time to regroup at this stage of the year. Maybe starting fresh will be good. Please make sure that Mo doesn't EVER get Lidge to wear that damned USC sweatshirt EVER AGAIN!

Lidge will be fine. He may be tired, but I don't know for sure. All I know is his slider is not consistent right now and maybe that is a sign of being tired. Dye's hit tonight was on a slider that did break down. Dye was just able to put a bat on it and hit it up the middle. Dye is their best hitter (like Berkman for us) and he was extremely hot tonight (he was 3 for 4). They probably should have walked him and pitched to Konerko, but hindsight is 20 - 20. I think Garner, Lidge and others have learned a lot by this experience and will be better for it next year. Lidge will be fine. You can count on it.

I think Lidge will be fine. A lot of extra pressure on the pitching staff tonight after seeing the team leave men on base inning after inning after inning.
We got beat 1-0 nothing tonight. Hard to win without scoring. |
